Overview:

This refresher course is tailored for individuals who have previously completed the 24-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER training and are required by OSHA to complete an annual refresher course to maintain their certification. It revisits key concepts, regulations, and safety procedures for working safely in environments where hazardous materials are present. The training emphasizes the latest standards and best practices in hazardous waste operations and emergency response.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this refresher course, participants will:

• Review of HAZWOPER Regulations: Recap the OSHA standards for hazardous waste operations and emergency response, focusing on updates and changes to regulations.
• Hazard Recognition and Assessment: Enhance skills in recognizing and assessing hazardous substances and understanding their potential health hazards.
• Chemical and Physical Properties: Review the chemical and physical properties of hazardous substances, including methods of exposure and the body’s reactions to different types of substances.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Refresh knowledge on the selection, use, and maintenance of PPE, including respiratory protection.
• Decontamination Procedures: Revisit decontamination strategies and procedures for removing hazardous substances from people and equipment safely.
• Emergency Response Plan: Update and reinforce understanding of emergency response plans, including incident command systems and spill containment.
• Health and Safety Procedures: Reinforce health and safety procedures to prevent accidents and injuries during hazardous waste operations.
• Hands-On Exercises and Simulations: Engage in practical exercises and simulations to apply knowledge in a controlled environment, reinforcing best practices in hazard recognition, equipment use, and emergency response.
